[MR] EZ up type tents

Many period tents can be set up with one person, although it is
usually easier with some extra help.

I have a period-style 17 ft x 17 ft square pavilion and, if the wind
isn't too strong or gusty, I can set it up by myself. The trick is
getting all four corner poles up and staked in before the wind blows
down one of the corners you've already set up. :-) A smaller tent
would be easier to handle by one person.

You might wish to look at some of the files in the STRUCTURES section
of the Florilegium. Unfortunately, I've not tried to select out
messages specifically on tents that can be set up with one person. But
here are a few which might be of help.

This one talks about how various tents do in bad weather conditions.
I'm not sure if I comments in there on EZ up tents or not. the big
thing I've heard on them is to make sure they are well staked down.
They will stand without stakes, but they then can, unfortunately,
become kites. As well as making sure that you stake them down, I've
heard a lot of folks recommending extra guy wires being used. On
period illustrations you can often see extra guy lines attached to the
peak of the tents and not just to the fabric edges and I've heard a
lot of folks say that that has made a difference on whether their
period pavilions stay up or not.

Since it sounds like you may be looking more at shade pavilions
instead of a tent or sleeping pavilion, perhaps these files might also
be of use.

I do have this file in the STRUCTURES section. Cassandra, I'd
appreciate any comments you might wish to add to this file.

I hope this helps anyone thinking of buying or making a modern tent or
medieval pavilion.
