Since Drums of War marks my 1st SCA Anniversary / Birthday , I can still
"technically" get away with calling my self a newcomer for a few more weeks.
I find this proposed law unnecessarily confusing and contradictory to both
the Society and Anachronistic parts of the SCA. This would only serve to
separate the feel of being a part of a society by making newcomers feel even
more distant from those that wear coronets. I feel reassured that it is OK
to approach people with coronets knowing how many people wear them. By
making it more exclusive, it only makes those people that do wear them more
distant. I think the final nail in the coffin of this law is that I am
always being encouraged to be more authentic, and seeing a law like this get
passed, one that has been clearly pointed out as not period, it does not
seem right. Shouldn't the people encouraging me to be more authentic not do
something so clearly out of period for no good reason? Speaking of
newcomers, I encourage anyone that wants to help newcomers, even if it is
just sharing a cautionary tale, to attend my University class for newcomers:
http://university.atlantia.sca.org/class.php?course_id=4874 Of course you
can sit in even if you are just curious about how newcomers see the SCA.

Jarvis Riley
