M'Lord Estienne, Greetings.

There certainly were archery tournaments, both for recruitment (the
English crown held on in 1516 with a 400 yard qualifying distance) and
for honor. Of the latter I call your attention to the famous annual
tournament of Brugge. It was won by the Antoine, Grand Bastard of
Burgundy in 15463, and he was proclaimed "King of Archers". You can read
about Antoine (my candidate for the "Most Interesting Man in the World")
and see his commemorative portrait at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine,_Grand_Bastard_of_Burgundy .

The Archer's Guild of St. Sebastian still maintains a museum in Brugge:

.

Kind regards,

Lord Mungo Napier, Archer of Mallard Lodge

Hey Murienne,

I think you are correct, in a way. I think that there may have been
tournaments fought with rapier in history, but they were past our time
frame. I can think of no tourneys that utilized the bow outside of
fiction such as Robin Hood (not saying it didn't happen, I'm just
ignorant of it if it did). . . .
