My Lord,
I am deeply disturbed that you would have such a negative and hostile attitude towards the members of an order simply because you do not agree with the Society mandated and tradition grounded basis of the order. The order of Chivalry in the SCA was created for and about heavy fighting. We have created other peerage orders, the Pelican and the Laurel in an effort to recognize other aspects of the Society, much as you seem to be looking for in your letter. Do you also have no respect for these other peerage orders because they do not recognize all aspects of the Society?
I am deeply saddened by your viewpoint and I would suggest that you take a look around in a more positive light at the many contributions made by others and the many ways we have of recognizing those contributions.

Unfortunately, I must agree with that Knight to a point, especially in light of the fact that we stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the numerous real-life period examples of people getting knighted who had never suited up in armor or picked up a shield. There are other forms of martial combat, and masters of those forms were made members of the chivalry. Our society ignoring that is not only political, but childish and cliquish, and to be honest has caused me to lose a fair amount of respect for the chivalry as a whole and most of its members.
Sorry for my ranting, but I thought it pertinent to your question.
Lord Karl von Konigsberg
