Greetings, Atlantia, from your Queen, Brianna!
My sincere apologies for the lateness of My missive. My mind and My heart
are overflowing. Gulf Wars was, for Me, bittersweet. I watched our combat
archers, target archers, rapier fighters and heavy fighters. I saw the
battles, the tourneys, the exhibitions and sometimes indulged in watching
the pickups. I also noted our volunteers, whether it was helping retain,
waterbear, cleanup or various other chores that had to be done. Everywhere
there were Atlantians working alongside other Altantians or people from
other kingdoms or supporting our fighters. I heard compliments from far and
wide on our citizens - their prowess, their honor, their willingness to
help.
I was also able to spend time with many people while there. Time spent with
the cheering squad while watching the ravine battles. (Heralds make great
cheerleaders!) Time spent with My rapier guard after midnight madness.
(Did you know that sitting on a bench has to be taught? Not mentioning any
names.) Time with old friends and making new ones. And time making dreams
come true. Such as Kari's Pelican ceremony. Mistress Rosalind sang as
Kari's entourage came in and the rapier guard lined up on both sides and
crossed swords for her to walk under. Listening to the words of the
worthies in her honor.
And, I would be remiss if I did not speak of the splendor. Opening
ceremonies started with a grand processional much the same as Pennsic, but
add in horses! Great court had the Kings and Queens entering the court area
from inside the fort. Closing ceremonies were slightly less grand with
royalty surrounding the gates of the castle both above and in front. All
had the Kings and Queens speaking of the glory that is Gulf Wars and the
friendship with which it is fought.
And a wonderful time was had by all! Time . . . and that would be the
bittersweet . . . for time marches on. Gulf Wars also marked Our last time
as your King and Queen. It has been, for Us, Our own dream come true. It
is everything We had hoped and more. You, Atlantia, have made it so. You
have opened your arms and your hearts to Us as We have opened Ours to you.
It is a time that will live on in Our memories forever.
Vivat, Atlantia!
Vivat the dream!
