Noble friends,
BBC just presented this very interesting artlcle about the skull of
Simon Theobald of Sudbury. He was Chancellor of England, and was
beheaded after Wat Tyler's mob stormed the Tower of London in 1381. The
skull has been kept in a niche in the wall of a church in Sudbury and is
now being studied scientifically:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-12775234 .
Wikipedia has a brief biographical sketch of Simon of Sudbury:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Sudbury .
There is also a Wikipedia article on the Peasant's Revolt, or Wat
Tyler's Rebellion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Tyler%27s_rebellion
. Nice illustrations too. Double-click on them for a larger version.
Here is a brief history of St. Gregory's church in Sudbury:
http://www.suffolkchurches.co.uk/sudburystg.html , The story of Simon's
head is about half-way down the page. Look for the small medieval
portrait on the left.
Kind regards,
Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
