I generally agree with you. I've always heard the SCA concentration
was on the cultures of pre-17th C Europe AND the cultures they had
contact with.

Personally, I think that excludes places such as Japan which had
minimal if any effect upon Europe. But if you wish to be a Japanese
Sammari, then go for it. But I hope you will take the time to do
actual research and not just take your information from the movies.

I think Classical Egypt is a bit out of period for us. But see above.
I think it would be wonderful to see someone work on a medieval
Egyptian persona though.

There are many personas, that in my opinion, are overdone in the SCA.
If you used the SCA as your prototype, you'd think that all the Norse
died out at the end of the Viking Era. I know of almost no post-Viking
period Norse in the SCA. Duke Gunthar of Ansteorra is one of the few.
But there are Viking-era Norse almost every direction you turn. Or, in
my barony at least, that there was one heck of a population explosion
in 1595. :-) Yes, I understand that a lot of people pick eras and
cultures that are easily researched.

For some interesting ideas on non-common personas though, see this
article in the PERSONA section of the Florilegium:
Som-Per-Ideas-art (16K) 12/31/02 "Some Persona Ideas" by HL Elaine de
Montgris (known as 'Lainie).
