I don't know how much clearer the following section could be:
"For Society members, most of the world, and all of the centuries prior to
the 17th, can serve as a source for
personal research."
ALL of the centuries.
"Since members have free choice of what areas they will explore, ..."
Free choice of what areas they will explore.
So, they can do so. Seems quite clear to me.
They will be in the minority, as also stated in the same section, and will
have to conform their practices accordingly, also stated in the same
section.
So, welcome!
If you decide on Egypt in the Islamic period, I'll be glad to point you to
quite a few sources.
