[MR] Two email lists for our kingdom

Greetings to one and all,
I don't post here as often as I used to, many of you may not know me or
remember me, as my ability to play our wonderful hobby has been sharply
curtailed for the last few years, but I have been around for a while (since
1992, if I remember correctly). I actually proposed the name for our list,
The Mary Rose (I was very big into the archaeology of the find at the time)
and with some discussion, it became the Merry Rose that we know and love
today. I think our list, with all its good points and its faults, is
behaving just like it was meant to work from the beginning. I've always
thought of it somewhat like being at an SCA gathering or party, where you
can join, listen too, or ignore individual discussions or conversations.
Any one of you has the ability, with a little effort, to start another list,
a YahooGroup, a tweet, an RSS, a Facebook, etc., which can be used for
whatever purpose you desire. If people desire to use it, they will and you
will have great success, otherwise, it will die from lack of interest.
I strongly suggest that we leave this list as it is, with all of its beauty
and all of its warts, and let it have its life. As has been said many times
before, if you don't like something, you have a handy dandy little "delete"
button on your keyboard. I suggest you try it sometime. I find it does
wonders. Also, if you find a thread you don't like, go to the trouble of
creating a filter to send those threads directly to your Deleted Items or
Waste Basket folder. Sure, it takes a little effort of your part to do
that, but are you so lazy or disinterested in learning how to do that, that
you would make us change a list that's, what? 18 years old, just to help you
sort your email? Come on, folks, let's get real about this.
YIS,
Lord Gawain Kilgore / Gregory G. Stapleton

With all due respect, I have no wish to be "retrained." Lets be sure we
understand that several people have just proposed to gut this list and make
it an announcement system and to tell the rest of us to go somewhere else. I
dislike this idea The Merry Rose, for all it's faults, is strongly ingrained
in the fabric of the kingdom. Also, The list format is flexible, especially
in this age of smart phones. I can check the list while standing in line to
buy milk or while waiting on a slow computer to load at work. I can't do
that with a forum.
I say this as someone who greeted the Atlantian Forum with great excitement,
only to watch people fail to flock there. We should think twice about making
such a change.
