[MR] census conclusions

Thats a good Idea.
the 7% you speak of are usually people who are well known, and when it comes to that people will vote on
others who can do the job,are liked by the people who choose them. not saying this is bad,but it
doesnt give any new bloods a chance because people dont know them or they arent sure they can handle the job.
some dont want the job due to mundane life or see what the current Baron or Baroness has to go through
and simply dont go for it.

as for the tourney part.the people holding those spots are the people who win them constantly.and in some cases the people who fight against them
either dont have a chance due to skill,or know if they try they may or may not win.
I have seen alot of tournies in my day when two people want the hot seat they do all they can to win it.not taking shots or other wise.
so the people watching dont try because they know what they are up against, and figure it isnt worth the trouble.or the pain.

some people dont want to be in those positions because they are happy in what they do.and the ones who do want it,
dream of the possibility, but know they will never attain it.
many people have tried for the crown, but think it isnt worth it,cant do it because the mundane life wont allow it,
or simply the fact of age will get to them before they can accomplish all they wish,so they settle for simpler things.

yes we need other venues to get new blood in place, but we have to work on getting the new bloods here and keep them here
so as to be put in those spots.

just my 2 cents,

Torgar

to proove the point, of some people and peerage we seem to have lost one of the most important roles of peerage, mentoring. ,look at the percentage of folks who have been either a landed baron or baroness, or royalty. less than 7%!   it clearly shows that too many people are holding these positions over and over again. we need to encourage new blood. term limits, perhaps?  perhaps a novice crown tourney,  stating as the regular crown rules, such as, you have to be in the SCA a year or more, but have never won a crown before. what do you all think?  have one every other year?
