"Here are a few observations from reviewing the data in the census or"my 2 cents
worth"

As a relative newcomer (5th year) I find myself agreeing with many of your
points, esp re "retired peers" that no longer contribute on the local level.

But I take issue with this comment:

"Currently our crowns are more concerned with how visible their tin hats are
than the overall enjoyment of the SCA experience to the newcomer."

I've seen them at work. My impression was that their motives are pure, that they
are doing what they think is best for Atlantia, and most important - they are
willing to lose popularity and admiration in pursuit of tough decisions that
must be made for the betterment of the Kingdom. You have to respect that,
regardless of whether you agree with them. The accusation that they would
indulge petty concerns re the visibility of their crowns is risable. I wish you
would retract that.

As for newcomers, I remember being yelled at my first event. I think I even
yelled back. oops. But Atlantia *does* seem to emphasize Courtesy more than
other kingdoms I've visited. We can always do more, esp when we're fighting
against heat or exhaustion, the stress of autocrating, etc. One thing thats
helped me is to remember that each of us is damaged in our own way - everyone
has some quirk or character flaw that we must work around in order to accomplish
the mission, whatever it is that day. And everyone has a few bad days. We could
learn to be a bit more forgiving of each other.

Cheers
