its also important to note that our numbers continue to increase every year.
not by huge amounts but small increases nonetheless. we are not "running
folks off" overall. there are small fluctuations from time to time but our
numbers are up 7000 since 2001.

Subject: [MR] SCA Census..
I too am wondering about this rumor that the BoD was hesitant to release
this. I *do* think it took a while to analyze the data, especially since
members of the SCA Census team were doing it on a volunteer basis, and I'm
sure that most if not all of them have their own mundane jobs to do for pay.
I know we're all going to focus on the "bad experiences with people in the
SCA" finding, but I noticed that the top two answers to "What led to the
decrease(s) in your activity level in the SCA?" (page 27 of the 61-page
slideshow) are two factors that our Society ultimately CANNOT control: lack
of time and lack of money.
If young adults have to stay in postsecondary school longer (see the recent
New York Times article, "The Master's Is the New Bachelor's") and then if
they have way too many financial obligations afterward (if they even have a
job), how are they supposed to throw themselves into our game? If they work
long hours, spend a total of two and a half hours out of their day on the
road just commuting, where does that leave time for SCA activities?
Just some things to think about before we all start accusing each other of
being the source of "bad experiences with people in the SCA."
Also, I was intrigued to find out that Atlantia is the fourth largest
Kingdom in the Known World. Go us! :-)
