Just at least putting up a small signboard at the beginning of the line,that gives a suggested serving?   I've seen this done before, where it said:  "Everyone should be able to have:  * A piece of fruit, a couple eggs, a few slices of bread, and one chunk of meat" ... or similar statements.

We had considered the use of polite signs but couldn't come up with wording that we thought would work ... this is eloquent and simple. Thank you.
