She did blow the glass for the balls (she is super talented!). I am not aware of what she used as a starting point for the glass, but know they function quite well. I can bring them to an event if you'd like a chance to see them.

I think she's up in Lochmere if you ever have a chance to run into her, that would be the place (I don't think she frequents the Tavern). I think Arab Boy (Jason Klein) at Historical Glassworks could probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know about historical glass making (http://www.historicalglassworks.com/index.php?p=home) if you wanted a new research path, smile.

Did Mistress Elspet blow the glass for these? Or did she convert them from some other modern use? I've never heard of anyone in the SCA actually doing glass blowing, although I've seen glass blowing at Jamestown and elsewhere, including in Mexico. The places I've seen it done were also recycling modern glass, not making their own. The latter is something I've never heard of anyone doing in the SCA.

I do have some info on these water-filled glass balls being used in period as magnifiers, but nothing to the detail I'd like to have.
