Apparwntly the ancient eyptians were ont o eye surgery but it was sort of lost with thm though tools have been found. Cataract on the other hand are visible to anther person when looking at the eye of someome wh has an advanced stage of the malady. Just like broken limbs, there is a point at which common observation was all that was needed to asertain the problem. There are many medical note on the subject in oeriod. I BELIEVE hildegard von Bingen i one in her herbal ook mentions aneywash or somehing for cataracts...cnt remember now.. Im really sleepy and tryiing to text this fom my cell is prettyhard. What did they know about cataracts in period? Did they even know it  
had to do with the eye lens? Even if they did, there probably wasn't  
anything they could do about it.
