One of my all time favorite purchases was a pair of wooden period style frames.
I had reading lenses put in, so I still have to wear contacts with them but they
sure are fun! I'll have to take a look at Stefan's links -- the person I got my
frames from stopped making them ...

Subject: [MR] handicaps/disablities

<<< Oh, and most of us really, truly dislike the 'disabled' label, no
matter how its used. "Handicapped" or "...with a handicapping
condition" is far more acceptable to those the label applies to. Why?
Disabled implies that there is no way we can do (much of anything, I
find). Handicapped implies that things are difficult, but do-able. >>>

Sigh. Years ago, I had a file and a section in the Florilegium for HANDICAPS.

I got taken to task for that, and was told that the preferred term was
"Disablilties" not "Handicaps", for similar reasons as explained above. So I
changed both the file name and the section name.

I guess before the complaints I had thought of things the way Gerita is. Argh!
People, make up your minds! :-)

And yes, I've always been "handicapped"/"disabled" etc, my best eye is 20/200
with glasses. From birth. I've also been a Type I diabetic since 1976. On the
otherhand, I qualify for MENSA. So?
