Oh my, it is hard to believe that 12th Night is almost upon us! Just a few short days left. This is going to be one of the last missives to go out from the hand of the event steward, I hope! However, I make no promises.
A note for those that are planning to compete in the Royal Bardic Competition:
We will be holding this competition in a lovely auditorium, located in the next building over from the Civic Center. Because it is on the grounds of Carteret Community College, no live steel can be brought on campus. Please, no daggers, knives, or other blades. If you had planned to use these items as part of your presentation, I aoplogize. You may leave them in the trusted hands of someone who will be remaining at the Civic Center (as it is not a part of the college lands) and retrieve them after you compete. If you should be asked to perform before the adoring crowds within the Civic Center, then, by all means, arm yourself with your steel.
Smoking:
There is no smoking on the grounds of the college, however, there is a designated smoking area at the event site, overlooking the water. It may be a tad cold that day, so you will want to bring a cloak, as the area is outside.
Speaking of weather:
It is forcasted to be clear but cold and a little windy. Since most of what we are doing is inside, this should not be a problem. You will need to go outside, briefly, to access the vigil area but once there, the vigils will be held inside in a very nice area.
Lunch:
We have not planned a lunch but there are several eating establishments located very near the site. You can also bring a small cooler with things to nosh on while visiting your friends, shopping the merchant area, admiring the lovely A&S entries, watching the various games (better yet, participating in the games), enjoying Court, offering words of wisdom to those sitting vigil, resting between the Royal Bardic Competitions, observing the various households taking new members, and on, and on, and on. Don't forget to bring your table decorations, as we will be observing and voting during the day, up to the moment feast will be served. On that theme, this site has the great ability to turn off the flourescent lights and bring down the interior light to something resembling soft candlelight, so bring those lovely candles for decorations (as long as the candles are contained within some type of glass chimney/lantern, to contain the flame). This is your chance to relax, look over the water, dream of Valhalla, and plan your new year within the Kingdom of Atlantia.
Feast:
So much has already been said regarding feast (mainly by me) but I wanted to remind you to please bring your feast gear.
As we are closing in on this special event, I wanted to get a head start on thanking all who make the trip to attend. We are such a large kingdom and I know that to travel several hours to attend this event is a committment on your part. Please know that the members of the Barony of Raven's Cove as well as those special folks that are helping to present this event, thank you. If you have any concerns or questions, I will be checking my email up to Friday morning. Or, please feel free to contact me on my cell phone : 910-526-4639.
Yours in Service and with a humble heart!
Baroness Katharine de la Vache
