         We know that the Greeks  burned 
marijuana and inhaled the smoke -- no evidence of 
pipes or joints. Various African societies likewise.
         Our own particular era, Idunno.   I 
think of "witches" using herbs.  Certainly 
cooking with either grass or hashish (the resin 
of the plant, which you probably already knew) 
would work well, providing it was a greasy 
recipe.  Tea would work, but most 
inefficiently.  Spaghetti sauce does really 
well.  THC is slightly water-solouble, but highly fat-solouble.
