As well I could imagine.
I am saddened by this on more than one score.
First, that the person in question was so rude and thoughtless as to hold forth publicly in such a manner.
Second, that the feast cook and probably much of the kitchen staff heard this and were distressed by it.
Third, that the account does not include any description of how this person was dealt wtih.
I certainly hope that someone took that individual in charge and very courteously burned his ears off.
That's metaphorical, of course, but I DO hope the individual was made to see the error of his ways.
Surely if his identity is known to any of the Peerage, one or more would have taken him aside to inform him of how unacceptable
His words were.
As Her Highness stated, our Society is based on Courtesy and Honour. It has been stated that all that is
necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. I maintain that it is also true that all
that is necessary for rudeness to triumph is for courteous people to be silent in the face of discourtesy,
to be SO courteous that they look the other way when they encounter rudeness. I consider it a duty of being
a Peer to intervene thus.
