thanks to all for your patience, oh carolers of Atlantia!! Here are 2
listings - one easier one that we can learn more quickly, and a harder one
for harmonies and anyone who wants to tackle a bit more complexity. I want
to have something for all!
If anyone needs my printout, just let me know!
Easier: Carol for New Years Day; Laudemus Virginem (it's a round); Angelorum
Gloriae; When Christ was Born of Mary Free; There was a pig went out to dig;
The Cherry Tree Carol (pg 102 version); Boar's Head Carol; All Hail to the
Days; In Dulci Jubilo
A Bit harder: Alle Psallite; Coventry Carol; Edi Beo; O Magnum Mysterium;
Riu Riu Chiu; Veni Veni Emmanuel; Deo Gratias; The Holly and the Ivy.
Ones you probably already know: Good King Wenceslas, The First Nowell, Here
We Come A-Wassailing, and Ding Dong Merrily on High.
If you are totally unfamiliar, check out youtube versions!! several have
lyrics attached so you can sing along, if you are not a sight reader. Here
are some of my favorites - google youtube + song name +
whatever I write, and it will get you there. Riu (dwsolo, or
traditioninaction.org + riu riu chiu). Coventry Carol and Cherry tree (Joan
Baez +themusic-world.com) or Judy Collins version. There Was a Pig (IONA -
Nutmeg and Ginger, sheet music folkinfo.org) Boar's Head Carol - Kings
Singers, BHC.mpg), The Holly and the Ivy (with lyrics - meowmeow996, or
Kings College Cambridge). When Christ Was Born of Mary Free (liljekonvallen)
The "plan" is to "practice" earlier in the day, probably in the area set
aside for performing, and then perform again later in the day, before feast.
The easier ones could be done during feast, in smaller groups of 4-6. Would
folks prefer to just do a walkabout, or do a flash mob where small groups
position themselves about the hall and sing the same song simultaneously?
Anne of Carthew and Adrianna du Chesne have both graciously volunteered to
help do the choral directing for the more complex pieces, and I know there
are many who already know them. Anne has midis of the separate parts - I
hope she will give us a link .
I will make up mini versions of a songbook with just these pieces and the
sheet music/lyrics for all our singers. Again, email me at
wizardofros at triad.rr.com if you want the 139 page semi-scholarly
documentation version.
Have fun practicing, singing in the shower, in the car, the office.... and
see you at 12th Night! I will send another missive with which of the many
lyric versions we will sing....
