Ghaltai asked:
<<< So, on a beautiful sunday I figured I get started on crossbow
practice. My first shot hits my 4?x4? target dead center. The second
one goes SPROING and my strng is somewhere in the woods. How do I get
a new one? >>>

Well, first who did you get your crossbow from? I would start with
them and see if they stock extra strings.

The jig to make a crossbow string is fairly easy to make, a pair of
spikes set into a 2 x 4. The cord or sinew (usually fake) isn't all
that difficult to find.

There is this file in the ARCHERY section of the Florilegium, but I
don't believe it has detailed instructions.
bowstrings-msg (12K) 7/ 3/11 Medieval bowstrings. Making bowstrings.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/ARCHERY/bowstrings-msg.html

There is also this file in the ARCHERY-FAQ section:
string-mak-FAQ (41K) 12/ 6/96 Making and serving your own bowstring.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/ARCHERY-FAQ/string-mak-FAQ.html

I probably haven't looked at it since I put it online, so I don't
remember if it covers making the serving or not. If not, see this file
in the same section:
serving-FAQ (9K) 12/ 5/96 Repairing and replacing your bowstring
serving.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/ARCHERY-FAQ/serving-FAQ.html

I doubt that the details in this file would have kept your string from
wearing out, but some of this file might still be of use to you. In
the ARCHERY section:
Crossbow-Care-art (25K) 9/25/10 "Care and Feeding of a Medieval
Crossbow" by Lord Siegfried Sebastian Faust.
http://www.florilegium.org/files/ARCHERY/Crossbow-Care-art.html

I hope this helps.
Stefan
