Ah, neat. A designated "writer". I assume they don't get to drink, but  
it does mean that as the contest continues the writing doesn't get  
harder and harder to read, and less and less logical... :-)

Are we in any way sure that a modern "bible" of beer and mead judging  
is in any way consistent with the desired look and style of a  
particular medieval brew in period, even if they bear the same name?  
Why?
