We are now at North Carolina, Virginia (coastal, I'm sure), and New
York. Whatever your political leanings may be, please note that FEMA
has to request the declaration before the President can sign it. FEMA
is doing its darndest to NOT repeat the Katrina et al debacle wherein no
one was in place ahead of need and it took forever and six days to mount
any kind of meaningful response. The American Red Cross is staged and
standing by as well.
Why do I post these things? It's good to know that the cavalry is ready
to ride, for starters (yes, I spent some years in Hurricane Alley),
because feeling alone facing such potential destruction is pretty
scary. And, it's good to know that an agency that has been kicked
around since its inception is finally being allowed to do what it was
created, staffed, and funded (sort of) to do. And, while they offer
loans, not free money, they also bring in temporary living quarters and
other means of immediate support that are free or all but free. And,
no, I don't work for them.
