As some of you have noticed, I read the East Kingdom list fairly regularly. I
have not noticed any greater--or lesser--degree of civility there. I have
noticed a lot less "general information" on the EK list. A lot less about
upcoming events. A lot less about someone's findings in history, etc. (Yes,
Garth, I appreciate you.) Few or no announcements of books, or events.

Right now there's a pointless discussion about illuminating the roads at
Pennsic. No discussion about hurricane safety or refuges, even though they're
going to get hit at least as hard as we will. Few discussions of "how to do
it." Frankly, it's much more of a waste of time than any of the Atlantia lists
I follow. And everyone seems to want to get his 2 cents in. Some digests have
three or four messages from the same person (who may actually be an Atlantian,
but who doesn't grace us with as many messages, for which I am truly
grateful).

There are some groups of grouches (IMNotSoHO) on this list and on the East
Kingdom list, but that's been true since BBSs and Usenet in the 1970s, and
some of them are active on this list at present, and some were active on East
Kingdom a couple of days ago. No problem, and I have to say, I haven't seen a
good flame war since the passing of RIME and Fidonet over a decade ago (but I
don't read Usenet regularly).

And there's always the DELETE key.

what should be. I've so often gotten the "why ever do you read that trash?"
look or query that I no longer admit publicly at Pennsic or other events that
I look at the site.
