Subject: [SCA-Rapier] Clarification on Hanwei blade failure situation

  Greetings all,

I'm pasting a bit of info from my friends out in Caid.
    ----------

    All FYI,

There is NO ban on Hanwei blades (in Caid or) Society wide. There is one
in Trimeris on oval schlagers labeled - Dalia Made in China. (Or it may read:
DALIA CHINA.) It appears these may be poorly made, but they do not appear to
be a safety hazard, according the information I have been given. Please use
them in good health, but be aware that they are potentially not as sturdy as
some other types of blades.

    ----------

Further, the blades which broke showed substantial of crystalization and
pitting at the break points. In short, this was a bad batch of blades like we
saw several years ago. The 2 rapier failures were both flat breaks (one broke
into 3 pieces and the other into 5 segments). The description was "spaghetti
snap reflux
break with heavy crystalization at the breaks."

As a suggestion, fencers should check their Hanwei / Dalia blades for
signs of pitting or slight warping in the flat surface of the blades.
