[MR] While this is sad, hope is not lost :)

Ordinarily, I just lurk around quietly, amused and entertained by all the
things that happen on the list. There's an ebb and flow to conversations,
and every couple of months or so there'll be a long drawn out conversation
that meanders far afield of the subject that began it all. It's the natural
order of things, for everyone sees things in a slightly different light...
We all learn and grow from listening to the perspectives of others, and that
is a fine and wonderful thing.

However.. Every once in a while, someone gets a bee up in their bonnet about
something someone else says that they don't agree with and everything goes
bat-dung crazy. This is a good case in point. What began as a head's up on
a child molester that might be lurking around events that should be watched
for turned into personal attacks on people who just voiced their opinions.
Of all the things that are unchivalrous in life, attacking someone for their
beliefs is at the top of the list.

Logan spoke as a father, declaring his intent to always keep his daughter
safe. That is the goal or all parents. It's frightening to think that there
are people out there who would bring harm to our most precious gifts.
Frightening even more so because there's really no way to protect them
always. You just do your best, and hope to the gods that it's enough.

I know Logan, and I know exactly what he meant. There was no harm meant to
others, no accusations. Just a father's determination to keep his child
safe. You have to love him for that, regardless of what else you think of
the man. Logan, as do I, tends to speak in great sweeping generalities. He's
thought things through and just assumes everyone else has too. Gets us both
into trouble, not to mention generating some dramatic confrontations between
the two of us. But there is never anything malicious intended.

The guy who lost his cookies and attacked Logan for daring to have the
audacity to say what he did, I don't know, so I have no idea why he felt the
need to make things personal, and I shall therefore not say anything else
about that, though I could write volumes..

My purpose for getting into this is my stunned disbelief that people who
would be dedicated to the idea of all things chivalrous and honorable would
want to leave the Merry Rose because someone said something they disagreed
with. That's just a flat snap to the cranium.... The Merry Rose is a
tavern.. A free wheeling forum for saying whatever is on your mind regarding
Atlantia, the SCA, and anything that helps make The Dream a little more
real. I like it for what it is and has always been. It makes me sad that
folks who have so many positive things to share are unsubscribing because
they don't like hearing what others have to say.

And just as food for thought, why are so many Dukes so hated? Is it
jealousy? Is it their perceived arrogance? I've known a lot of Dukes, and
Odin knows they have their moments, but they've all been good hearted men
who just try to help in their own special Alpha ways..

We're all Atlantians. Lets not forget that.
