[MR] Lesson from Isabel

Another solution might have been to get one of those campsite potties with a bucket of chemicals for it? I've never used one but it might suffice. Of course if you live in a rural area the generator sounds like the best way.

A few days? Is that all? For Isabel we were without power for 13 days, on
a well and septic system that meant no water or toilets for that entire
time. Add in 3 children under the age of 4, and you get a very interesting
time for all. Luckily we have family and friends to help us, but we still
slept in the house since it was too much to burden others (not to mention
stressful for the children as to why they were not sleeping in their own
beds).
We borrowed money to get the house onto a full generator after that -- and
have never regretted it.

Back in 2003 when Isabel blew though northern Virginia we didn't get much
damage apart from some water in the basement. But our water and electricity
was knocked out for several days. Losing the electricity wasn't so bad, but
no water! Try going without a flush toliet for several days. That is
medieval! Get you some rubber stoppers for your tubs and fill the tubs with
water. That way you'll be able to fill your toliet tanks. The s--- fill
flush. You'll be glad.
