If you're evacuating with pets, also look for La Quinta Inn, and some Motel 6 take pets as well.


don't leave them behind...but if you do, don't leave them without a means of escape! (ie,
don't leave them tied to something, etc)

to those of us in NC. get ready to evacuate if you are near the cost or on the coast, if told to do so. I work for FEMA and have been in myrtle beach when hurricanes went through. first thing, make hotel reservations now, most hotels inland will book up early, especially those few that allow pets. (like sleep inns) remember, most hotels will let you cancel up to 6pm day of arrival, but check the cancellation policy when you book. 
 get your vet to fax you the vaccination records of your pets today. some places require documentation of current vaccinations.  most evacuation shelters, if not all, do not allow pets, even in kennells, so don't rely of that for your evacuation!   
make sure your pets have collars with id tags on them, in case you get sepperated. in lieu of a tag, put you contact info on their collar with a sharpie pen. 
  remember to get clothes, food, water, batteries, and charge all your cell phones, etc, so that you leave with them fully charged. get gasoline today, you know the gas stations use any excuse to jack up the prices.
if your home is in a flood area, or in danger of wind damage, bring copies of your insurance policies and any other important papers with you.  take pictures of your possessions and the inside and outside of you home, it will help a lot to proove damages.  and don't wait till the last minute to evacuate, remember the hellish lines from Fran and Floyd in 1998 and 1999.  eastern NC was under water for weeks and they were cat 3 hurricanes.  in fact, I think Floyd didn't even come inland, it just sat off shore for three days and drowned us with over a foot of rain. and we were on the western, or weak side of it.  just because we may not get a direct hit, doesn't mean you should shrug it off.   go to wral.com for evacuation routes and local evacuation info.   good luck,  if we get a hit, I'll probably be down there after dragoncon. gwynwilf.
