Stefan of Cambion, Kingdom Historian, mentioned:
<<< From 1980 until 1984, Atlantia had a shire called Curragh Mor, big  
boat in
Gaelic.  It was the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz, based in Norfolk.   
This fit
in the SCA rules as the ship had its own zip code.  It held at least  
one event
on land while in port, including ship tours.  Story has it that the  
captain
ordered a fighter practice on the flight deck when a Soviet spy ship  
came up
close to observe it. >>>

For those who'd like some more info on this shire, there are several  
comments, including more comprehensive info on the encounters with  
Soviet ships in the SCA-Stories-msg files in the SCA-STORIES section  
of the Florilegium.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure which of several of these files these  
particular stories are in.
