Since everyone else has been announcing their April 30th events on the Merry
Rose today, I thought it would be a good time to remind you about the Feast
of St. Pyr VIII in Blacksburg, VA.

Here is a list of the confirmed classes, along with descriptions for the

John Wyclif: 14th Century Heresiarch (Lord Thomas Schreiber)

In this course, we’ll take a look at John Wyclif, a religious dissident of
14th century England. We will examine his theology and the sources that
influenced it; including medieval philosophical traditions, politics, and

Liechtenauer's sword and buckler style. At the end of part two, participants
will have an opportunity to practice techniques in guided drills. PVC

practice bucklers proved to be too expensive for them to be provided.
SCA-standard armor will be required for full benefit of some drills.

Making Micro-Mosaics the Nonperiod Way (Master Thomas Broadpaunch)

This class is for those interested in mosaics and maybe wanting to try it
out at an entry level without a large investment. Demonstration will consist
of techniques used to create small, fairly detailed mosaics using flooring
tiles and 2mm beads of various colors. Examples of modern- and period-themed
mosaics will be displayed. (Please note: "period-themed" refers to what is
depicted--there is absolutely nothing period about the methods or
materials.)

Melee Class (Lord John West)

Old French Poetry Forms--A Survivalist's Guide (Baroness Maaline Renard)

This is a poetry workshop featuring several Old French Poetry forms--the

Paint: What Is It, Anyway? (Mistress Gwerfyl verch Aneirin, known as Aneira)

We’ll play with dirt, eggs, and other messy things to learn about the two

be working with extremely sharp knives. No one under the age of 18 may
attend without the express permission of a parent or guardian. Under the
age of 12 may not participate without the presence of a parent or guardian
in the class.
