  Noble friends,

Today marks the 597th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden Field, one of
the blackest days for Scotland in a long history of gloomy defeats at
the hands of the English. On this day in 1513 James IV, quite possibly
the best of Scotland's ill-starred Stewart kings, fell at the head of
his army. He may have been a good king, but he was a poor general. With
him perished as many as half his 34,000-man force, including many of the
top Scottish nobles and knights, along with thousands of common
soldiers. "The flowers o' the forest will nae come hame again."

You can read about this tragic defeat on Wikipedia at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Flodden_Field .

Kind regards,

Lord Mungo Napier, Who Was Serving Isenfir at the Time
