I like the idea of marking/identifying the volunteers willing to help newcomers. This way it doesn't make a newcomer feel like he/she has a "scarlett letter" on the drawing everyone's eyes towards them. They can identify the volunteer and quietly get guided through their first event with much less stress. I would be willing to volunteer and I know others in my canton would too.
