Yeah... that does help.. I had doubts I knew a herald that could speak fluent Mongolian so for an AoA I did recently I had the print off... I consulted someone who knew how to read and write Mongolian for calligrahpy. Thankfully he also knew how to transliterate(sp?) so the herald could "speak" the scroll in Mongolian if they wished.
I write my name in the back where it won't show through to the front..ie behind a painted portion of the scroll. Along with the source for which the illumination was inspired from.
Another reason to write in pencil is in case the scroll is damaged by water or liquid. Pen and ink will most likely run or disappear whereas pencil will stay put. Most scribes make a digital copy scrolls for their websites, blogs or personal archives so one could have the possibility of obtaining at least a copy of their original award.

Heralds would like you even more if you add a printed page that they can
easily read in a modern script. A loose page in a plastic sleeve would work,
though let the herald know ahead of time that such exists. 9 x 12 scrolls
fit in scrapbooking 12 x 12 protectors. Adding your name there does not
impede the artistic value of the scroll, leaving you the ability of signing
lighter in pencil on the back.

those beautiful scrolls that are handed out at courts...
Seconded!! The names of those who prepared a scroll are supposed to be
supplied to the Clerk of the Signet as part of the "dry" court report. I,
for one, enjoy seeing those good gentles honored in the more narrative court
reports sent to the Merry Rose; I also like to see them honored aloud DURING
court, and encourage court heralds to uphold that tradition as much as
possible.
