Noble friends,

Recently the newest member in the Shire of Isenfir, Lord Sebastiana, was
exploring Charlottesville. He discovered that our restored downtown
theater was running a series of low-cost "oldie" movies, including THE
ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD starring Errol Flynn. Lord Sebastiana made
contact with the theater manager, and offered to have members of the
Shire attend the screening in garb, with us being in the lobby early to
show off our toys to the theater goers. He even managed to get us free
admission.

Six adults, assisted by Lord Sebastiana's incredibly cute 2 and 4-year
old daughters, worked the demonstration. It remains to be seen whether
we gain any new members from the outing, but it was a great opportunity
to gain some community exposure. We also gained the good will of the
theater management, and are promised consideration for future films.
Besides, we had a lot of fun. Little children were especially interested
in my longbow, arrows and sword, and adults were impressed by our garb.

My own modest contribution to this demo (other than showing up), was to
make bookmarks. These were computer printed with our contact
information, the Shire's arms, and a very small photo of two heavy
fighters whacking on each other. A hole punched in one end allowed a
brightly colored piece of ribbon to be attached. My reasoning was that
the business cards we usually give out probably are rarely looked at
again. The bookmark has some utility, as well as size, and might be
around for a while to remind the guests of who we are.

So the lesson I want to offer to the Tavern is, first, to think outside
the box, so to speak. This theater has been here longer than any of us
(it is a community-owned restoration of a classic movie palace), but
none of the long-term members ever considered it as a venue. It took our
newest member to recognize its potential. Second, we may have gained a
small return on our time and effort, but this is one way to be
recognized and accepted as a community asset.

My friends, take these idea and run with them!

Kind regards,

Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
