Either the ratchet strap or the dedicated form will work (I made my
form from scrap 2x6 and a piece of 3/4 inch ply). The attached jpg
shows the way I made my shield to be 3/4 inch at the edge while still
as light as possible. Do the final cut of the shape AFTER you have
formed the curve. For a lefty flip the center shape. One thing I did
was after gluing, letting it set and before removing from the form I
evenly (more of less) drilled holes around the edge for 7/8 inch
screws and put them in. Release the shield and cut to final shape.
Then put the hand guard and forearm strap on. I did one more step
before the heater hose edge guard went on. I put a fiberglass sheet on
the whole shield and over the edges. Heater hose held on by leather
straps that are screwed to the shield finish it.
As to what to paint the shield... pick your favorite color and use no
design until you work with the heralds for your personal arms.
