"I used to live in Bangor, Maine. Because of what happened to the Vietnam vets,
local groups made sure that EVERY plane returning from the Gulf (first war) that
landed in Bangor (which was a jumping off site for troop transport because it
had been a B-52 base) had a welcoming committee....folks shook the hand of EVERY
person getting off of the plane and there was food/drink and sometimes music
provided for the flights....regardless of time of day or season. Sadly in a
way, it's still going on for flights returning from the Gulf. - Brigantia"
Yes! I experienced this when we returned from Somolia. Middle of the night.
12 feet of blizzard. And yet all these people were out for us, handing us
cookies and smiles.
Thank you so much. It feels stupid to say, but Bangor Maine always has a soft
spot in my heart after the way they welcomed us back home!
Cheers
