Noble friends,
The BBC is featuring a brief article on the kick-off for the 800th
anniversary of the Magna Carta: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11735060 .
And that obviously Victorian and romanticized illustration is a hoot.
Of more importance to understand the Magna Carta and its impact, try:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7150403.stm . This very nicely done
article explores the various re-issues of the Magna Carta (when it was
changed), and the presence of a number of copies, which were sent to
each of England's counties. Yes, there's another of those really
schmaltzy illustrations, which is at least worth a smile.
Finally, you can read a background story on why the Magna Carta was
drafted at:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/middle_ages/magna_01.shtml .
Kind regards,
Lord Mungo Napier, That Crazy Scot
