Greetings all, hail and well met!
Hope to see many of you at Sapphire Joust, where Min el-Jbal el-Zarr'a will be teaching classes and hosting haflas again this year. The Saturday night hafla will be held on the list field, after court is done and dark is descending! Sunday evening, we will be hosting a hafla at our camp to start at around 8:30pm. We will be teaching classes that evening before the hafla, so if you want to brush up on your drumming and dancing and be fresh for the fire, come on out to our camp for fun classes. Camp will be open for visitors any time the flag is up in the front, so stop on by to hang out, play music, talk ME dance and culture, and just say Hi! If you have a move or a rhythm or something that you just can't get, stop on by, we'd love to share and help in any way we can.
Min el-Jbal el-Zarr'a will be camped just outside the gate, as in previous years. Classes on Sunday are as follows:
7:30pm Beginning Drumming, Middle Eastern rhythms
and Dancing beautifully, upper body movements and expressions based on Persian, Ottoman, and Romani dance styles.
8:00pm Hafla Preparation: Drumming and Dancing, etiquette, traditions, and sharing in the experience.
Hafla to immediately follow! If you can't dance, drum, or play an instrument, still come on out, watching and making noise are an important part of the experience. Let's recreate a night on Silk Road caravan, a crossing of tribes, sharing of music and community, shared by travelers from all over the medieval world! Not just a drum circle, but music shared, an experience shared, a common dream felt in the firelight!
See you at Sapphire!
