I am writing a few quick notes and reminders for this weekend and the Event/Demo at Steppingstone Museum. It looks like Mother Nature is wetting us down during the week and Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be Sunny and in the 70's with evenings 40-50 so we have a run on good weather, I am guessing Mom knows she owes this autocrat for Birthday... We will happily accept the great weather for a great weekend camping with friends, food, and time in the warm sun to share our crafts. We will have a great assortment this year with heavy weapons fighting, archery, equestrian activities, siege weapons, spinners, weavers, illuminators, bakers, brewers, cooks, and bards along with some other medieval reenacting groups to share information with. I have a few specific notes to share and final reminders:
-If you need folding tables or chairs for your demonstration or display please let me know by Friday if you have not already. If you came last year, I will provide the same # you had last year, please bring table cloths if you have them.
-We will have a group fire and grill space available, Friday will be a smaller crowd and Saturday night is a pot-luck feast so bring anything you might like to throw on the grill and something to share. There is limited fridge, freezer, microwave, and power outlet space available as needed.
-If you wish to have an additional fire, please bring a fire ring or shovel (sod needs to be removed and replaced), a bucket for water, and your own firewood.
-Period tents and pavilions are very welcome, but please be prepared to cover non period items if you pitch the tent near the public access, we do get peeking into tents although some will be intentionally open for display
-Modern tents can be pitched in an area out of public view or in the main camping area if they are taken down during the demo hours
-Since we are emphasizing the medieval period for the demo, we'd love to see more medieval garb than Renaissance if possible, I know most of us have a variety of garb so if you have a choice when packing, go early!
-I will be available throughout the weekend on my cell phone at 352-281-8216 and museum volunteers know that folks might be asking for Lady Faye or Angela when coming in to set up
-Hauling ice and water is a good idea, we have potable water on site and I will have some available, but if you want your own stash please bring it with you
-If you arrive at an odd hour and the incoming gate is closed, you can enter the exit gate to the museum, we will lock this at night for security so call my cell if you are coming in late
-All vehicles unloading Saturday or Sunday morning must be moved out to the parking lot by 11am each day, please ask and get directions before driving in to the farm building area
-You may have alcohol during non-demo hours if it is discreet, Please No smoking on site, Smoking is allowed in the parking area only and you must properly dispose of butts
-Please sign in with your full SCA name when you arrive so we have your waiver, your information, and proper name for Thank You's after we all go home
I think that hits the odd last minute details and reminders and I look forward to the great weather and a great weekend in a beautiful site!
