[MR] A question of Protocol regarding toasts

Some time ago, there was a discussion on the Merry Rose about toasting at
events. After sorting through some 50 emails on the subject, there seem to
be a few things that are believed.

1. The highest ranking Peer that isn't the King or Queen toasts Their
Majesties, next highest ranking Peer toasts Their Highnesses, next toasts
the hosting Baron and Baroness.

2. Outranking everyone when in Their own lands except Their
Majesties/Highnesses, the hosting territorial Baron/Baroness toasts Their
Majesties, the highest ranking Peer that isn't the King, Queen, Prince or
Princess toasts Their Highnesses, the next highest ranking Peer toasts the
hosting Baron and Baroness.

3. Guests at High Table are assigned by the King and Queen.

4. Guests at High Table are assigned by the hosting Baron and Baroness.

5. High Table is coordinated by the hosting Baroness, but the King and Queen
say who sits there.

6. The hosting Baron and Baroness are guests of honor.

7. The hosting Baron and Baroness find out who is the highest ranking Peer
and ask them if they would like to give the toast, and then arrange the rest
on down the line from there.

8. The newest Peer should have the opportunity to do the first toast, or
toast those who aren't able to be with us that night (such as in the
military, or passed away, etc.)

9. Toasting as we do it in the Society is a post-period, Victorian custom
anyway.

As you can see, there are a lot of things that are believed about toasting,
most of which are exactly the opposite of each other. Atlantia has no
sumptuary laws, which means that there isn't really a law or policy that is
stated flat out to guide us on this.

That said, given that the event season is now ramped up into full swing,
what would be the best way for the local landed Baronage (and not just my
own, I'll add) to not step on toes as regards Feast, High Table, and Toasts?

Before you answer - PLEASE trim your posts and don't hijack the
thread/subject line to discuss anything other than toasts and High Table.
Anyone who doesn't trim their post will receive the entire digest of the
previous set of messages on this subject from me. I want to use this
information to advise several sets of local landed Baronage who have
inquired on this matter. Thank you so much!
