That's easy. Remember William Thatcher aka Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein? He plainly stated in the movie that he changed his stars.
Apparently it was acceptable to place ownership on celestial beings back then. So it would seem, the stars didn't disappear...he cashed them in on a title. ;)
