June 4-6, 2010 - Highland River Melees

The Barony of Highland Foorde is holding Highland River Melees at a new site
this year. The Barony of Highland Foorde invites all to join us for our 22nd
Highland River Melees, “Battles for Orleans” this 4th, 5th and 6th day of
June, 2010. Our most gracious and worthy Knights Marshall, Gaius Tascius
Severus Fabianus has based this year's Highland River Melees on the Hundred
Years War. Fighting will be between many teams representing Duchies,
Baronies, mercenary bands etc. These teams will be organized into two
'kingdoms': the French and the English, the leaders will be chosen by a
male only tourney for 'the Black Prince' and a female only tourney for
'Joan of Arc'. Participants can leave and rejoin the fighting throughout the
day. Be prepared for a long campaign. Activities include A&S Classes and
Challenges, archery, combat archery, heavy, page school, rapier, siege
engines, and more. I will send more announcements with the website address
when it is available

And now for the challenge information you were waiting for.

Highland River Melees A&S Challenges:

Choose the your side: Do you support Edward or Charles? England or France?
This years Highland River Melees A&S Challenges center around the Black
Prince and Joan of Arc. Here is a little information to get you started. The
Black Prince’s device was black with three white peacock feathers. Joan
represented Charles, whose household device was a blue field covered in gold
fleurs-de-lis. She had no device of her own.
Black Prince:
- Representation of a peacock in any medium.
- Representation (excluding peacocks) of Edward.
- Princely Garb
- On the road: his travelling gear: dishes, banners, saddles, right
down to the teensiest item.

Joan:
- Representation of fleurs de lis in any medium.
- Best representation of The Maid.
- Garb for The Maid. Garb for her campaign life.
- On the road: She didn’t really own much, but what would she have had
with her on campaign? Be creative!

Documentation is encouraged, but papers longer than 4 pages should be
entered as stand-alone items. Documentation will only be used to help
viewers understand and comment on the artisan’s work. This is a campaign –
no time for long, deep reading!

Anyone who displays their work any of the challenges will receive a
remembrance of the day from the Coordinator. If you wish to discuss the
challenges in more depth please feel free to contact the coordinator at
chinrescue at comcast.net.

Thank you for reading,
Elvira Pedrosa, (co event steward HRM 2010)
