place

My 10 year old daughter M is in the 4th grade. They had a writing prompt
for the month of March on "My Favorite Place" .... here is what she wrote.
(please do not reprint or repost).

Pennsic is the best place ever! It's my special place. It's a two week
medieval camping event that I have been going to since I was born. You
dress up in medieval clothes, go singing for money, and sleep in tents!

Pennsic at first looks like a normal campsite. It's covered in grass,
gravel, and a camp shop. But if you look closer, you see tents, people in
medieval clothes, and duling knights! Plus, modern stuff is not allowed.

In Pennsic the people you camp with are your family. You have a special
bond with them. In Pennsic, you can't be sad. You have the feeling for a
moment, then then everyone cheers you up with music, laughter, or just
smiling. When I'm happy I go belly dancing.

One time when I went to Pennsic a few years ago, some knights came running
up the road where I was singing. One came, then another, then another, than
a whole swarm! Their armor glistened in the hot August sun. They fought
and hacked and clashed with their bows and arrows, and swords. The then
moved up the road to the food court and out of sight. What a day!

That's Pennsic for you. Overwhelming, fun and sometimes scary. It's a
different world on that campsite, and every year it's my special place.

Just thought you all would enjoy it!

In service to the Dream,

(Lady) Mym the Minx
