Modern day mints do piedfort's as collect coins, well at least the royal
Australian mint has in the past, as I have a few from my collector days, as
stated in the article, they are double thickness from the standard coins :)

Interesting! I recall that a commemorative coin was struck during Atlantia
20 for their (then) majesties to give out as tokens--I still have one at
home-- but I didn't know it was a period thing to do.
