some folks have opined that it is inappropriate to discuss anything about an
organization that we are going to do a demo with. that it is inappropriate
to educate people so that they can decide whether or not they wish to
support the demo. i find that odd on many levels. of course most of these
folks have made incorrect claims that offering factual information about the
bsa is somehow an agenda or a plot to undermine the demo. that bringing to
light these facts is somehow an action against children and that educating
people that might not be aware of the corporate stance of this organization
is the wrong thing to do. weird.

i dont think that anyone has suggested that the children involved with the
scouts are bad. nor that those adults, scout leaders, mentors are pushing
an agenda of discrimination or bigotry. i think that most of us that have
been involved in the scouts have had pretty much the same experience. mine
was, i think, pretty common. the scout leaders and support people that i
dealt with were all good folks at heart and i believe that they all cared
about the children in their charge (although my first experience with
marijuana was with my scout mentor on a camping trip). i also dont think
that any of us attended any scout functions that involved scout leaders
pressing the agenda of the mormon church. what i dont understand is why
someone would object to learning more about an organization especially one
that benefits from our tax money while, on a corporate level, they maintain
a position of bigotry and ignorance. i wonder if the demo were for a kkk
group if the tone of these same folks would be the same. i mean, replace
blacks and mexicans with atheists and homosexuals and the message is the
same. i dont understand what the objection is to informing folks about the
stance of an organization, any organization, so that folks can make an
informed decision regarding whether or not they want to support an activity.
that said i would attend the demo if i could even though i find the stance
of the organization ignorant and appalling because i dont think that the
children involved care if another kid is gay or not. perhaps its just me
but i prefer to not walk through life with blinders on.
