Storvik's Annual Novice Tournament
June 19- 20, 2010
Barony of Storvik

The Barony of Storvik cordially invites you to a joint event, featuring a full weekend of martial and artistic activities. Please join us in a celebration of friendship and camaraderie as this event will include the best of both baronies’ traditional events.

Martial Activities: A Novice Tournament will be run by His Excellency Sean Dalamara. This tournament will be exclusively for combatants who have been authorized in any form of heavy combat for less than one year. We encourage all entrants to preregister and send us an electronic version of their heraldry, so we can make personalized banners to display around the field. If an entrant does not have heraldry, we will provide an alternate type of banner with the entrant’s name, but only for preregistered fighters. There will also be an Unbelt Tournament for more experienced but unbelted fighters. Contact him at john.dollymore (at) verizon.com
Lady Ella Lille will be teaching an MoL 101 class on the morning of the event. Contact her at ella_lille (at) yahoo.com for details.

Rapier Combat: Lord Stephen Bridewell, Provost of the Academie d’Espee, will be running a tournament exclusively for novice rapier fighters who have been authorized for less than one year. This will be followed by a team tournament. Novices will be paired with experienced fighters, and they will fight as a team for honor, glory, and valuable experience! Contact him at stephenbridewell (at) yahoo.com for details.

Archery: There will be target archery scenarios run by Nuala and Geoffrey of Needwood. They can be contacted for details at holly0920(at)yahoo.com

Silent Auction: Lady Beatrix Von Leipzig will be holding a silent auction to raise money for the Barony of Storvik. Contact her at beatrixherald(at)yahoo.com for details about the silent auction and A&S competitions.

Arts and Sciences: There are a number of different Arts & Sciences competitions and exhibitions planned for the day. Novice: This competition is open to anyone who has been practicing an art for one year or less. Any item is welcome and documentation is optional, but is encouraged. True novices only please.

Brewing:  A novice tourney including 1) beers and ales, 2) mead and wine, 3) cordials, 4) syrups and sekanjubins, and 5) other brewing-related beverages such as vinegars.  Judging will begin at 2pm.  Prizes will be awarded in each of the five categories.  You must have been working in this style for less than one year to compete - if you've been making beer for years but just made your first mead eleven months ago, you can enter the mead.  Documentation strongly encouraged, but keep it simple: the period recipe, your redaction, what you'd do differently.  Make sure to include all ingredients and quantities.  Presentation should be simple too - capped or corked bottles without other identifying marks on the bottle or cap, except for a label with your name, the name of the entry, and a list of ingredients (quantities not required; this is a food allery safety measure).  Competitors are encouraged to be present at the judging. Contact Lady Sorcha

Lord Richard Wyn will be hosting a "Bardic Critique" where bards would present to the class a performance and all in attendance would offer advice (good and bad) to the bard. Contact him at rickwyn1 (at) comcast.net for more details.
