[MR] Kingdom Crusades, etc.

heck the big house on the hill leaked as well so im not surprised if every
cabin leaked. the site was, at first, an excellent one with a fair price.
that changed and they kept increasing fees without any increase in value
which was problematic. the biggest issue with the east trying to redo the
event was failing to talk with the other folks they were expecting to come
to it. ;^) and youre right about the other events going on even as far as
nc since the last crusades had attendance from the southern half of the
kingdom outnumbering those from the northern half by 3 to 1. when we
started crusades, then called pointless war, the idea was a good one and
there was a lot of support kingdom wide (less in the east) and it worked out
well. i think we just sort of let it fumfer along on its own without
looking at the future of the event and what we could do to foster its
growth. we kinda just expected it would carry itself. interest waned, the
economy changed, and the site started charging more and more and didnt offer
any sort of pay off for the price hikes. its really too bad since the east
kingdoms fighting culture is the one closest to our own and we have a very
long history of friendly rivalries with them not only on personal levels
(me, cuan, mike, anton vs lucan, gregor, ice, darius) but also with our
respected cav units (bedford, ebonwoulfe, mooselodge vs vdk, icod,
serpentius) not to mention our ties with pennsic. i doubt it will come back
without a serious reimaging and even with that there is a lot of atlantian
interest in blackstone to contend with.

Your Grace, last year's East Kingdom attempt to resurrect Kingdom Crusades
was up against FOUR separate Atlantian events. Not only was the fair land of
Storvik celebrating its 30th Baronial Birthday -- having begun its existence
as a branch of the East Kingdom itself -- but Sacred Stone was also holding
its Baronial Birthday, and both Caer Gelynniog and Marinus staged events as
well. (See http://acorn.atlantia.sca.org/calendar.php?year=2009&month=9.)

With such festivities within our own borders, what need of out-of-Kingdom
entertainment did Atlantians have that weekend?

Also, from my limited experience with the past Kingdom Crusades that were
held in Bright Hills, I recall that the site was much more expensive than
most places we have events, and some of the cabins, if not all, leaked all
over when it rained.
