wow, you certainly read a lot into me stating that in my opinion the price
was a bit excessive. i never said anything negative about anyones efforts,
decisions, legal responsibilities, lack of sleep, or personal financial
responsibility and your charge of me being disrespectful is unfounded and
unwarranted. i simply stated that the event pricing seemed a "bit
excessive" and that opinion was based on having been to each of the
preceding wow events, being involved in some of the planning of the first
two, and being fully aware of the costs associated with that particular
event. your personal desire for melodrama aside i feel that everyone has a
right to voice an opinion. i have been active in the sca for nearly 20
years and have attended events with as few as 30 people and as many as
13,000. i have autocratted many events, worked as a member of the staff for
many more, planned budgets for events in the sca and many many more in the
"real world", and have had a lot of experience contemplating what i offered
and what i received for the money ive asked or spent. so its not like im a
blind man taking a poke in the dark. most folks on the merry rose have
never been an event steward nor worked as staff for an event, many have.
regardless i dont think anyone here has suggested that anyone volunteering
for these jobs is doing a bad job nor that they are "heartless capitalist
pigs" or even that these are easy tasks. these are creations of your very
active imagination and i think unfairly touted as the feelings of others.
anyway, the event steward has already offered a bit of an explanation for
the increase which makes sense on the outside. separating this event from
the regular "business" of the hosting barony does propose a new set of
challenges as well as rewards. much like we did with pointless war/kingdom
crusades some years ago which allowed the event to be run on its own without
involving all of the hoops and hurdles of other kingdom events as well as
involving the east kingdom as the alternating host. in the end i trust
those involved in that decision that it is the right one for them and will,
in the end, serve the attendants of the event best. to that end the staff
feels that such an increase is needed to get the groundwork started for the
future growth of the event. each person will decide if they want to attend
based on whatever criteria they already use when making that decision
obviously.

I realize that you can't figure out what would be wrong with
disrespecting people's work in public, Logan, that's what I find amazing
and frustrating.
Have you ever heard of praise in public and punish in private? We have
sat around scratching our butts for a week now criticizing the decisions
of those poor unnamed souls who are willing to take on this job of
running our events. It's one thing to brain storm ways to solve a
problem and it's another thing to start taking pot shots at the work of
specific groups of people and you just went strolling across that
boundary without blinking an eye.
Why would anyone hestitate to be an autocrat? You take on a huge amount
of legal and financial responsibility, you usually go without sleep or
rest for days and you work regardless of the weather without pay, and
bonus! if you are really lucky, the Merry Rose might sit around talking
about what a bad job you are doing with your budget and how you and your
group are heartless capitalist pigs for wanting enough money to pay off
your storage unit for another year! Why would that NOT be an attractive
role that everyone wants to take? Sign me up for public ridicule, please.
That's beside the point that any good ideas or reasonable comments on
this topic have been made multiple times and we are now beating a dead
horse.
And this from a group who supposedly follow a law of courtesy. I'm
sorry that I lost my temper over this, and I should not be informing you
that you are being rude, but I couldn't stand it any more. I'm going to
do us all a favor and unsubscribe.
