> see, the event bid/budget is turned in well before an event is a twinkle in most people's eye.the submission contains info like WHO will be comped and why, and how it pertainsto the break even point of the event. "comping off the cuff," changes that contract withthe kingdom, or barony, or shire who awarded that streamlined bid in the first place.
> have ya ever served at a feast, and noticed that some of the servers always end upsitting at the tables, while others are constantly running food? the difference is thatthe cook and autocrat are on paper well before hand, they carry burden. where as a person who shows up the day before the event, to work in the hall doesn't. true, theymay volunteer long hours, but the paperwork submission probably didn't cover the floor mopper comp.see, thats up to the autocrat and whomever filled out the paperwork months ago. ergo, not a slippery slope. its an existing agreement, that by definition someone is volunteeringto enter into. also thats why you give service awards. "that crack monkey stayed afterthe event six hours to pick up everyones mess, she wasn't on staff, just helped out, doesn'tlive local, and was doing it out of kindness."
> HEY beats giving those awards to people who work drug deals for them. "i will donate ice,but only if you submit me for an award for it."
> now if you announce that feast servers will be "comped" feast. many folks sign up.sadly most never make it back to the kitchen. they just sit at the table, and will besome of the first to come to the kitchen window and announce, "hey, im out of this orthat," but won't actually fetch it back to their own table, which they are eating at forfree. don't ask me to name names, more than a few you would never expect it from, andare prominent in more than a few orders or peerages.
> for an autocrat to offer a comp would fall into the autocrats domain. but it should be a prettysignificant thing. ie "the event depends on it." so don't take it out of their hands to useas a motivational tool, but by all means, it shouldn't be in the collective culture so everyhard up scatian needles them for a free pass.
> AND to be quite blatant. thats why you hold cookie cutter events. welcome to ShirePartyhosted by the shire, and staffed by the shire. i would expect the vigilant shire autocrat figuredin his 23 active members when he set up the plan to be voted on at his shire meeting. Andi would expect that if that bid were submitted to become a kingdom event, then the bid shouldbe accurate and reflect those who will be comped and he should stick to his original budget.over run that budget by 10% and the bid rightfully should have gone to that other group whosubmitted the accurate bid to begin with.
