[MR] Lowering event fees

I don't think Ray was suggesting a hard and fast rule. In my Barony,
the autocrat can present a budget in which teachers were comped and if
the numbers work out then he/she could do that. That prevents said
slippery slope, because it is a one time decision and not a general policy.
Also, having taught a lot of classes in my time, it's not a matter of
being reimbursed for your time; it's a matter of being reimbursed for
the $40 you spent making copies at Kinkos or for the art materials you
provide for hands on classes. I have so consistently lost money on
classes, and not just a little money, but $50 - $75 for a University,
that I have a new method for classes. I've taught classes with a large
handout with color images and gotten three or four dollars back as
contributions from the students even when my class description required
a $2 donation from everyone! I now put my 'handouts' on google docs,
with the scanned art work or whatever in an online gallery and give the
attendees a one page black and white hand out that gives them links to
my online presence where they can view art images and print out
bibliographies to their heart's content. It also allows me to make
corrections or additions to the topic over time and have that available
to those interested. That way, I only lose the ink cartridge expense to
print out those 20 pages, instead of paying for 20 copies of a 12 page
article.
